Can I ask, and if you know what is the price range on these machines?
Also what is the min. power for the laser head I should look for? 12-45W.

hi ali...
i do not really know the price.... just send them a request..
so the speedy 100 which is the one with the lowest power has 73W on the cutting plane (the value from the manufacture is 60W so it is a little bit tuned ;))
so acryl with 5mm with one cut is no problem also mdf 5mm

Hi Ali,

We use a Trotec Speedy 300, with the same 730x420 table as to]
Ours confidently cuts through 20mm acrylic, 9mm MDF etc... and etches with 500 dpi resolution.
With these lasers extraction is required, especially if you're doing a lot of cutting, which as additional cost consideration. Filters are expensive.
The cost of ours, as 5 yrs ago, £16k for the Laser + £4k for a suitable extractor.
The upsides to the eye-watering cost are: It's quick, very capable with virtually every material except reflective ones such as metals and glass, near maintenance free running for 5yrs...

I'm sorry I don't have any direct info for you but Universal Laser Systems machines are used frequently by schools/studios in the states.

I've also heard there are some off-brand cutters available from China but I don't know any specific suppliers.

What I like about the Universal Lasers is the direct interface with Rhino.

We recently installed a Trotec Speedy 100R in the modeling lab of our school, 615 x 305 mm cutting plane, 30 W laser, cuts through 8mm plywood.

I came across a macau supplier who make all sort of computer control machines, in the hksz biennale, they produce neat machines with very competative pricing, I've used their CNC machine, which is extremely fast and heavy duty.

Universal Laser is also a neat choice, I've been using 3 machines since a year aago, the cutting result is very neat with high resolution edges, minimal burn marks, the driver is extremely fast, never had unexpected errors. However the laser beam is quite point focused (beam like an hour glass shape) which produce a non-90-degree edge with thick materials.

I used for some time a China made very large scale 4 by 8 feet cutter, their laser beam is more straight instead of conical, you dont need to set focus for materials below 6mm thichness, which is very convinent.
