Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi

I am trying to run my first octopus simulation. But I am stuggling a bit to start with new component.

G = I am connecting to my variable slider

O = I am connecting results

P,Ps = what shall I connect here?

Currently I have it blank...and got warning input parameter P fail to collect data

you can neglect the warning, ill try to switch it off next time.

p is an optional parameter where you feed in any gh data that you get for one solution, speaking in GA language: the phenotype (hence p). after each generation, the collection of assessed phenotypes then is given out at ps (phenotypes).

Hi Michael,

I am trying to do a similar simulation for one zone only using honeybee, but when I downloaded the Octopus pluging I don't get this solver component(assuming it is similar to galapagos).

Do you know how do I find it?Since now the component is updated..

I would be very grateful if you share the definition. It will help me as an example to correct mine.

Best,

Nita

Hi Michal,

I downloaded the right component :D Still, would love to see the definition.

thanks,

N

Hi Nita,

I have the same problem, I downloaded Octopus and I am trying to use it with Honey Bee, I plug in the Genomes and the Parameters to optimize but cant find the solver or how to set it to run.

Thanks!

Blanca

Hi Bianca,

In order for the solver and Pareto front to open you have to double click the component(the green one at the image above). But if you downloaded the new version, I cant help you with it.

How did you manage to connect the HB results as objectives?Do you know how to weight the different values? It will be very helpful if you share a screenshot or gh.

Thank you,

N

hi,

i am sorry but apparently i compiled the last version of octopus with a false setting, so it did not find the galapagos components as they were moved to a different folder in GH 0.9.0.76 (again).

whenever you had just gene pools connected as parameters, octopus would not open its window.

this should be fixed now, i uploaded a new release to food4rhino

Hi Robert,

Thanks a lot, this is very helpful.

It is still not working for me.

Nita, I will try to use a different method and will share the optimization process!

Did you double click on the octopus component?

Does the Rhino command window give you any messages when doing so?

Does the Rhino command window give you any messages when starting grasshopper for the first time in your rhino session?

Thank you,

Best

Robert

Hi Robert,

when oppening the file it gives me an error (image).

Then the component is not on the canvas, when i plave it on the canvas and i double click on it Rhino command window says the following:

"No objectives obtained.
No parameter connection found
No objectives obtained.
No parameter connection found"

Thanks!

Blanca

Hi,

as the error message says: it is missing HelixToolkitWpf.dll in Grasshopper's Components Folder (''Libraries') - it comes with the octopus download. As said in the instructions you have to copy it there manually. It will work then

Best

Hi Robert,

Are there any tutorials online on how to use the pareto front and export results?

thanks a lot,

N

p.s.Blanca also unblock the file
