Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi

I am trying to run my first octopus simulation. But I am stuggling a bit to start with new component.

G = I am connecting to my variable slider

O = I am connecting results

P,Ps = what shall I connect here?

Currently I have it blank...and got warning input parameter P fail to collect data

There are some examples coming with octopus, also there is a link to zitzler's tutorial slides on the octopus examples page

otherwise, google is a very good source

Hi Robert and Nita,

The HElixToolkitWPF.dll is in the Libraries foldeer for Grasshopper and both files are unblocked, but the same error comes up.

Thanks,

Blanca

Blanca, you are working with the latest release version from a couple of days ago, arent you?

Are you running the very last GH version?

1) By the same error, you mean the one you have posted? That helixtoolkitwpf.dll cannot be found?

2) Can you place the octopus component on the canvas yourself?

Hi Robert,

yes i am using the latest version from a few days ago and i double checked that it was the version that should be compatible with my GH (also very last version).

Yes, by the same error I mean the one I posted before, I even tried in a new GH file.

Yes, I was able to place the octopus component in the canvas myself, and when I plugin inputs and outputs it doesn't give any error, it's just that i double click it and nothing happens.

Thanks!

Hi Blanca,

i dont really know what the cause is now, this happens (as the error says) when octopus does not find the helixtoolkitwpf.dll.

when grasshopper is started, type GrasshopperDeveloperSettings in the rhino command and have a look at those paths:

what should ultimately help is adding an entry to window's path variable ..

it s a bit hard to tell what s going on without checking your machine directly

cheers

Hi Blanca,

have you found a solution to your problem? I have the same problem.

Thanks in advance, David

Hi David,

Sadly, I was never able to make Octopus work. I would still be interested in looking into it though, let me know if you find something helpful!

Thanks and good luck:)

Blanca

Strange. I know sometimes there are troubles opening the Octopus Window. But in all cases so far it could be solved.

- Make sure the latest Octopus & GH Versions are running, and both the files of octopus are unblocked (octopus.gha and helixtoolkit.wpf.dl)

- New GH document

- place a number slider

- connect a number container and connect it

- place octopus and connect it to the two components

- double click octopus, if it does not open after at least a few seconds have a look at rhino's command window if there are any messages

best

Robert

same error, if I find a solution, I´ll tell you both.

Guys, I fixed it: my problem was that I had previous copies of Octopus and Helixtoolkit, I searched for all the octopus files and deleted them, and copied new unlocked files.

Hi Robert,

I have the same issue now using Rhino 6. Is octopus working with Rhino 6 or do I need to do anything in particular?
