algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Is it possible to obtain the branch depth of a path as a binary number?

I'm trying to obtain it so that I can plug it into the path depth of Trim Tree (see below)

Others have used Tree Stats / List length (link below) however this isn't quite what I was looking for.   http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/obtaining-path-count

I also tried my hand with this but my Python skills are unfortunately not good enough to get it working! http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/getting-branch-indexs

Many thanks!
