An oblate spheroid can be formed by rotating an ellipse about its minor axis.

Or create a Sphere and scale it only along the z direction.

Nah, chicken eggs are not symmetrical along the equatorial plane. They have more curvature along the top than the bottom.

Thanks all for that.

I realise ok that reducing the Z axis on a sphere gives me the shape I want. I'd love to know how nature does this? Bit of a mystery eh?

   Can Rhino create these easily ? I'd like to get a printout eventually so I can create a

template.

O, and by the way, It looks like a chickens egg is a prolate spheroid to be exact as its polar radius is larger than the equatorial radius!! :)

Oblate is opposite!!

Here's an oblate spheroid using grasshopper.  It's very easy to create the same in Rhino.  Solid>Ellipsoid>Center

How will you create a template of a 3D object using a 2D printout?  Just curious to understand what you mean by this.
