Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I am having trouble with normals vector on my definition :

The element from the same tree branch have different plane orientation.

I would like to unify them to match a single vector direction.

Would you know how to do such thing ?

Thank you very much fro your time.

Marc.

Sorry. My response was to the original post descriingb dis-orientation of planes. Typically this can be solved by specific construction of the plane via specific components. Your question was specific to normal vectors (they are inter related either way, I guess).

The files I attached for you contain corrected normal vectors (sounds like you are just trying to unify all of the normal vectors). There seems to be no need for the script. The problem was you crvs were  going in different directions.

You may need meshEdit tools by UTO for file to work properly. I provided three options for correcting the normals.

Hope that helps...

ah! sorry, I thought you was referring to my problem. Anyway thanks for the definition, but when I open it tells me that a component (the one used to listing out curves) is missing as you can see in the image below. Is this component a part of some plug-in? I use the version of GH 0.9.0014.

Sure. I am using the latest version of GH 0.9.0056. The component is called "list item". Double-click in your canvas and search for it. It's there...

The NEW [List Item] will be unable to open in older versions because it has changed significantly to include a shift list capability through the ZUI.

The old one will do the same job but you will need to add it

I cannot use this version cause I have Rhino 5 RS0...could you please post a screenshot of the part of the definition where you list out curves before the loft, so I could try to reproduce it...

and another answer...when you use the Plan3pt component which input do you connect to B and C?

thanks a lot

Hi Ron,

If you are using the new List Item you might as well get the benefits from it

Zoom in to get the pluses to add before and after outputs

OOHHHH!!! I can't believe I didn't see that yet! Thanks Danny! I was wondering when something like this may come along...

Cheers!

I know!

It's too rude to describe what biological reactions went on in my pants when I saw that. :)

New way of getting Last Item

Nice! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. And for sparing me some of details ;)...

Thank youRon,

I rebuilt the definition and did some tests but the problem persists: having to do optimizations with Ladybug and Galapagos and I need to move points but when the points change their position the normals do not behave the same way again. That's why I was wondering if there is an automated method in which every possible configuration of points the normals are correct (i.e. with an if ...)
