algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello All,

If i have made a non-planar closed degree-2 NURBS curve out of 7 different NURBS curve and then if i want to create a non-planar surface out of that curve...any ideas on how to create a non-planar sruface inscribed within the closed curve? :-(

Can you provide an example?

Hey Danny,

I remember you had helped me out once initially too. You are the one who is a Kiwi in USA isnt it?

I'm doing a generative model, but i do not have my GH Definition with me right now. However, i hae drawn a quck sketch. Different curves in blue and orange colour. i have marked on my sketch which is a a non-planar surface.

At the moment, i have modeled this with NURBS curve component (component without Knots & Weights). I have set 5 to its 'P' intput (I'm going to reduce it to 3). Each point having 3 parameters X, Y & X axis. I have set my slider from -100mm to 100mm range. It is a closed curve.

If i just loft it, i get random results which i donot want. I can get a planar surface if i set Z parameter to zero. But how do i get a non planar and preferably a burbs surface?

the curves are very important to this projects. as Whole form is dependent on these curves.

Your tips will be highly appreciated. If you have different way of modelling it, I'm open to suggestion too.

cheers,

aB

Have you tried the patch command in rhino?

Hi Brian,

Thank you so-much for your suggestion. However, I do not want to use any Rhino geometry in my model. I want it all in GH so i could have dynamic design space. However, I'm not aware if there is a patch component in GH.

Hey Agneesh, so due to the helpfulness of Andrew Heumann in this discussion:

http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/patch-from-rhinocommon-an...

attached is a simple script component that will patch from GH.

Brian,

You have been very kind. Thank you for your time. This really helps.

I'm a Kiwi only in spirit. My wife's a JAFA and we've named our son Zinzan but that's as far as it goes. :)

Not in the US either, I'm clinging to a rock in the middle of the Irish Sea with 80,000 other alcoholics enjoying the TT races at the moment. Although weather has postponed today's racing. :(

You'll see I've already sent you a PM.

good luck!

Danny,

Oh yea, now the memory is clear. Weather here is crap too. I'm in Palmerston North, your wife might shrug her shoulders too if you talk to her about Palmy :-D

Yea i got your PM, i might give it a shot, but T-Spline component is in a rudimentary state. But as u said, in terms of geometry it has its own advantage.

cheers

aB
