Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I made a sin curve using the arc tool in Rhino and then extruded it. I now want to create a mesh made up of a letter from the alphabet repeated continuously, essentially creating the curved shape. Is this possible? If so, can anyone guide me through how to do it?

I was trying to find a good Rhino discussion forum, but didn't have much luck. Does anyone know of a good forum? I didn't know where else I could post this.

Thanks in advance

Hello Chistina Z,

Would love to help, but a bit confused about the letter and how it is relevant to the sin curve. Can you attach a picture or example of where you would like to go with the project?
It's a project for my Graphic Design class. Basically I want to take the curve as seen in the bitmap upload, and create a mesh. Rather than a mesh of continuous lines creating the shape of the curve, I want to make a mesh with one letter, let's say lowercase 'i'. It will repeat itself to create the shape of the curve.

Like these i's create a rectangle...
iiiiiiiii
iiiiiiiii
iiiiiiiii

I want the i's to create the shape of the sin curve.

Does that help?

in case bitmap doesn't work...

ok, I think you know what you are looking for. Try this and see if it helps ....

These are the steps I saw when I opened it (there was a lot of random letters and this was at the very bottom in caps)

1. DRAW A LETTER IN RHINO....TRY TO KEEP IT AS ONE SHAPE. IN OTHER WORDS, THE LETTER "C" SHOULD BE CONSTRUCTED AS ONE CURVE OR A JOINED CURVES. 2. ATTATCH SRF AND GEOMETRY TO GH COMPONENTS. 3. USE THE SLIDERS IN THE SFRAMES TO ADJUST PROXIMITY AND THE ROTATION SLIDER TO FIT. ENJOY

I'm sorry I didn't mention this earlier, but I don't know how to use grasshopper yet. Is there any way to do this within Rhino itself?
Im guessing that you just clicked the file. Right click on the file and "save target as" name.ghx . From there you can put the .ghx file on your desktop and open the file in grasshopper. If you are clueless as how to navigate the grasshopper interface, then I would suggest watching some tutorials to get the basic idea of what the tool is how it is integrated into rhino.

good luck
So you're saying there is no way I could do this in just Rhino alone?
