algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi everyone,
First of all, I'm totally new to Rhino and Grasshopper. And I'm trying to use this program to simulate walking paths in the urban environment for my studio class. My final goal is to make something that looks like Frei Otto's magnetic wooly path. And I have downloaded the wooly thread definition from Angel Linares's post.
However, before I started to run the definition I got stuck with controlling the paths. I wanted to connect the Buildings with Transit points without using "Cross Reference". So, the logic behind it is that people choose the shortest distance to walk from their buildings to the public transport terminals or at least they don't walk more than 400 meters from 1 point to another.
But when I tried to apply (and study) "short list" to my definition, the result did not show the actual shortest distance, instead it showed the "other distance". I mean, "short list" doesn't work when the points are scattered. I also have messed around with trim start, trim end, and interpolate but they did not give what I need. Can anyone help me out? I have uploaded JPEGs of my case.

Short list doesn't find distances it finds the least number of combinations of data elements. Cross-reference finds the largest number of combinations of data elements.
Like Chris said, [Short List], [Long List] and [Cross Reference] are components which change the layout of data so that you can operate on certain combinations. It doesn't do anything geometrical.
If you're looking to find the closest point in a cloud of points, then use [Pull Point] or [Closest Point] or [Closest Points] or [Proximity 2D] or [Proximity 3D]. You'll have to decide which of the above suits your needs best.
