Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

i'm rather new to gh and i recently ran into some trouble using the software.
A few days ago i did some tutorials on how to create parametric towers and a parametric truss. I managed to combine those methods, but now i stuck at something which might be actually easy for you guys, but i can't figure it out by my own.

So what i've basically done, i made a tower which i divided in subsurfaces and then set a truss to them.
What i want to do now is to increase the thickness of the towerwall, so it actually becomes a solid.

i can do it in Rhino by creating a parallel surface of the towersurface, but i want to do it parametrical in gh.

I also like to know if there is way to set a voronoi to my parametric tower

I'm really looking forward for your answers.
many thanks in advance.

Julian

Julian,

See attached for the offset truss facade. I'm sure there's a better way (there always is isn't there?) but I believe this achieves what you want. As for voronoi, I am of no help, I've never really worked with them.

My changes are in purple groups.

Hey Nick,

thx a lot, i really appreciate your help!
When i open your settings, i get a huge amount of messy curves and surfaces around the tower and i don't really see where they come form. Is it the same when you are running it?

What i wanted to achieve is sth like this. I made this with rhino, to get a thicker towerwall by adding a parallel surface to it, is there a easy way to do it parametrical in Rhino?

greetings

hmmm...  no problem on my end. Which version of Rhino and GH are you using?

I am using Rhino 5 and just downloaded grasshopper few weeks ago, guess it's the latest version tho.

could you upload a picture of your model?

see attached.  I am using Rhino 5.0 and GH Beta 4 version (see at top of discussion page) but that shouldn't be an issue.... Is it maybe just your GH preview settings that are set to wireframe instead of shaded? (ctrl+3)

Actually, as I'm going through it, I do see some triangles that are screwed...  My bad. Back to the drawing board...

thx a lot for your efforts Nick!

Julian, see attached.

Make sure you're using the latest GH (beta 4). Opening the gh file in previous versions seems to cause issues...

WOW, it's working and it is impressive! exactly what i wanted.

thank you so much Nick!

i'll take myself some time to follow the steps you made and try to understand them :)
