Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

I have been facing this problem for a while now and I cant get to a result

I have a set of trimmed faces sent to me probably made by another software than rhino,

what I need to do is to be able to treat them as one surface (Maybe even one mesh) ,

and then make holes on it while being able to control the equal radii of the holes (and later their randomization), and the number of the holes.

This is very urgent , any help will be very much appreciated

Thanks in advance

David , can you please help me with this

  1. Join them (either in Rhino or in GH, it doesn't matter)
  2. Distribute some points on the shape. You can use Populate Geometry for this if you want, though that doesn't give you much options in terms of specific distribution.
  3. Create spheres on the points
  4. Use Trim Solid to cut holes in the original breps using the spheres.

Thanks David ,

I was wondering though if there was a way to make the holes in a non random distribution , (steady hole density all over)

Your shape doesn't permit a non-random distribution all over, that's only possible for certain shapes and certain numbers of holes.

However you may be able to get close using a Kangaroo simulation that moves points across the shape until stresses have been minimized, but I'm not the man to help out with that I'm afraid.
