Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Could anyone help me please, The grasshopper script works but when the location of the spheres goes too high the mesh just collapses. I was hoping for the mesh to stretch further creating more of a elongated final outcome.

Being new to grasshopper I don't know how to achieve this and have tried to alter various pieces of the script. If anyone could help even just to tell me what part of the script needs altering that would be really helpful.

Thank you.

Here's an alternative way of approaching this.

When the objects you are colliding with the mesh are spheres, there is a much simpler and faster way - using springs which only activate below a certain distance.

This will allow to more easily use a mesh with a larger number of vertices. If the vertices are too far apart in relation to the size of the spheres, then the sphere can pass between them, which I think is what was happening before.

Hi Daniel,

Sphere Collide component doesn't work with list of different radius. How I can solve the problem?

Hello Daniel,

Again thanks so much for the help. When trying to use your mesh collide the mesh does not interactive with the sphere. Is this as I am meant to plug this into my old collision file? Sorry am very new to grasshopper so this may be a very simple question.

Thank you

Becky

Hello Becky,

No other files are needed - when you open the definition above, you need to first start the simulation by double-clicking the Kangaroo component and pressing play on the controller which appears. Then when you change the 'movement' sliders the spheres will move and collide with the mesh.

Thank you.

I need to just ask I am trying to get the mesh to hug the spheres more (I have added a photo to show the effect I am after but this would now be with several spheres). I have tried to alter the size of the sphere in this to be smaller which didn't have an effect and I have tried to divide the mesh face more but this also did not have an effect. Do you have any suggestions?

You can add a negative pressure to the mesh to simulate something like the effect of a vacuum forming machine:

Watch out that the size of the mesh faces isn't getting larger than the spheres, otherwise they could slip between the vertices. If this is happening use a denser mesh to start with.
