algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello All,
I am currently trying to develop a folded Geometry (Half%20Scale%20Model.jpg) using Kangaroo Hinges. I have managed to create the form using the origami plug in but I would like to try it by using only hinges and springs so that I have more control over the form I am creating.
I have followed this thread: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/kangaroo/forum/topics/basic-hing... : In order to create a singular Triangular fold however now I have made it into my more complex form when I reset the simulation it goes out of control, I suspect that this may be due to my springs being incorrect however I am not sure how to fix this.
Below is an image of the parametric example that I have managed to achieve using origami and also a physical version of this, I have attached my working 3dm and GH files.
Thank you very much

Hi Lorna,
Can you start at a rest angle of 0 on your hinge force and slowly go towards a higher value making sure you are using radians and not degrees in the input, when does it go crazy?
Also can you show a diagram of your pointlist as it is possible that you haven't chosen the right points in the hinge force.
Finally make sure you have no overlapping springs as this makes things go crazy...
Hope this helps for now.
Arthur
Hi Arthur,
I have made a slider input at zero and when I reset Kangaroo it seems to work but as soon as i move it up even by one it just starts to spin about the anchor point.
The comment about the springs is correct, probably due to the way I have made the geometry. I am not quiet sure how I can rectify this though. I have attached a screen shot of the point list.
Why are there several faces on top of each other at the bottom right?
Sorry I had multiple attempts to rectify it turned on, I think it is due to the way I have made the hinged sections. Ill continue working on it ...
Hello Arthur,
I have had another attempt from scratch in trying to create the definition. I have formed the mesh differently in this case to avoid any duplicate mesh faces and this helps with the creation of the point list and hinges.
When I toggle Kangaroo I now recieve the error:
1. Solution exception:Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: index
I have attached my script and the new point list incase you can see any reason this may be happening.
Thank you in Advance
Lorna
Ah yes ! Thankyou
Although this script is built in a different way it is still out of control, even when I begin the script on zero before moving the angels
Kind of normal with such a large definition. I recommend running kangaroo every time you add a hinge/spring force and see when i gets out of control. it's likely that one of them might cause issues... If it works for two hinge forces then you're on the right track!
