Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi All,

I have a surface that I isotrimmed and scaled the resulting surfaces.  I would like to move the resulting scaled surfaces to align edge to edge again, but am having some trouble conceptualizing how to do this in grasshopper without looping.

I have attached images of what the definition currently produces and would the desired outcome is.

Any help is appreciated.

Just a silly question but why can't you just scale everything to the same xy plane instead of separate points? When you delete the plane input to the scale, it looks OK to me.

You are right, in the definition I uploaded that totally works and I should have been more specific, I would really like to retain he flexibility to use a random list of scale factors for each surface like in the definition I have attached and still get all the surfaces to realign edge to edge.

Thanks for your help.

A solution relatively poor. The smart thing would avoid this problem rather than a subsequent solution. Too late to think for me xP

Thank you so much.  If you have a chance, I'm curious about what you say about avoiding this problem, I know that I tend to think to linearly.   Any thoughts you have would help.

Thanks again!

In Spain we have a saying: "prevenir es mejor que curar", which literally translates as: "prevention is better than cure".

If you can solve this problem with the parameters of the scale component (ie, before scale), you will make (probably) a more efficient algorithm that making a postprocessing (ie, after scale). Perhaps it is exaggerated to say in this small case, but it's still good practice.

No, not exaggerated, I get what you are saying and it is good practice.  It would be more elegant if I fix the way i was subdividing the original surface instead of scaling then trying to match everything up in the end.

It works in a short definition like mine, but can be problematic as the algorithm gets more complicated.

Thanks again for your help!
