Mathematical function sin and cos purpose in voroni diagran

I found this definition online.I understand everything in this expect the part where they multiply the x coordinate with x sin(x) and x cos(X).Why are they multiplying it in particular with sin and cos??? Or is it a default mathematical formula for deriving points for a spiral.It would be of great help if someone can clear it for me.Thanks in advance.

Does it help at all to know that you can get the same results with this:

instead of this?

P.S.  Keep in mind that those are radians, not degrees, so both sine and cosine cycle every ~6.28 (2 * Pi) values coming from 'Series'.
