Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi guys,

I found a dodecahedron-definition on the internet, and now I have tried to map a hexgrid on it, but it look quite strange :-/

if I use my "map-definition" on a sphere, it works. I think the problems is, that the dodecahedron is not one surface, it contains more than one surface.

how can I handle this?

thanks

Maybe something like this...

hi,

that looks better, but at the top and bottom the grid concentrates to one point, is it possible to make it more uniform?

my goal is something like that:

Hi Michael,

take a look at this post.. it uses geodesic instead of hexgrid... if you have a "normal" distribution of points you can get an "almost" hexagonal tiling, which is not concentrated on specific points. just replace that part of the code in my def...

thanks for trying to help me ;)

I looked at the definitions, but that really hard to understand, what could i use from it and what not.

The problem for me is, it is based on random. I try to but the random-definitions out, but that does not really work ...

I will go one to understand the definitions. I hope you have some further advice for me :)

thanks

Hi,

Sorry but I have been busy at work. I used kangaroo and circle packing to get a more normal distribution of the cells. The cells have 6 vertices but they are not normal hexagons... I believe the answer lies somewhere there. you have to run a few tests..

It's a nice idea and expression.  Here's my quick attempt at it with StructDrawRhino (probably a good idea to update to latest, as I fixed a tolerance issue with the polyhedra, http://www.geometrygym.com/downloads)

File attached.

Cheers,

Jon

The note in the definition wasn't right, so here's an updated version.
