algorithmic modeling for Rhino

A lot of times I have two components that are far from one another on the canvas that I want to connect. So far that I end up having to scroll to move between them, but the window will not scroll while I am holding a wire with the mouse.


I have been moving to components near each other so I can connect them and then moving them back, but is there some other trick for making long distance connections between components?

It sure would be nice if dragging invoked scrolling wouldn't it?

I think I'd rather see an option where you can right click on one connection and choose "Connect To..." and then it puts grasshopper into a mode where you can repeatedly click things to connect too. That way you could not only make multiple connections quickly, but it also wouldn't matter if they were connecting components that were close to one another.

Anyone else thing this would be useful? David you reading this?

The receiver component might help too. Have a look in Parameters/Special.
True, but I don't like receivers because then I can't visualize all the connections. Is right clicking a receiver and setting it to show connections, or selecting it the only way to show wires too it? It would be nice if there was a way to temporarily show all receiver connections rather then having to look at each one individually.

I like to use the geometry or primitive params to create pointers to my output. Then I copy the param and connect the original output to the copied one and then drag this across the canvas. By copying it you get the same title to you component which is easier to follow what the input is. If not clear see example below:


David can correct me if I'm wrong, but because they are pointers to the original item the memory usage doesn't increase dramatically
