Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Loading GH with and without Parallels (newbie help please)

Hi All.

I'm trying at long last to get moving with Grasshopper and am very much hoping to get my other plugins loaded and organized at the same time.

I have downloaded the most recent GH rhp file and put it in a dedicated folder ("Rh 4_0 Plugins_LOADED") on my hard drive and I have pointed Rhino to this folder in the Options > File > File Search Paths. However, I have noticed that there is also a GH folder with an rhp in it in the Program Files (X86) > Rhinoceros 4.0 > Scripts folder.

For the moment I am focusing on Rhino 4.0 SR8 but I will also be getting 5.0 32 bit running. I am running Windows 7 on a MacBookPro using Parallels and I am running XP in BootCamp on the MacPro.

Does anyone happen to have a solid methodology for loading and organizing their plugins? Is it advisable to dump them all in the scripts folder instead of the method I am describing above? Anyone running Parallels out there in GH world?

Thanks for any tips on this issue.

Jonathan,

The Grasshopper installer puts all the files where they need to be and adds registry keys so that the plugin will be loaded by Rhino automatically. Why are you moving the files around?

The installer will create a single folder inside <Program Files>\Rhinoceros 4.0\Plug-ins\

Once Grasshopper runs, it will add additional folders to your account ApplicationData folder. This is where Grasshopper settings, skins, user-objects and 3rd party gha add-ons will be stored.

There should not be any folder called GH inside <Program Files>\Rhinoceros 4.0\Scripts\

Hi David.

In my eagerness to get my plugins finally tidied up I didn't realize the installer took care of everything for GH. I think I got it rolling here and thank you for the help.

Regards.
