Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I am slightly confused as to how I am meant to set-up my loadcases.

Does Karamba expect that I am inputting ULS or SLS loads? How does Karamba switch between the two? Is it possible to have some loads that are only active for ULS cases? For example if I have a steel structure where I wish to pre-camber out dead load then I would not want dead load to be included within my deflection calculations, but I would want to include it within my ULS checks.

Dear Hugh,

at the moment (Karamba3d 1.3.0) the recommended procedure is this:

  • use characteristic loads to get the real displacements.
  • for the ULs calculation limit the member utilisation to 70%. The assumption here is, that the overall safety factor on the load side is 1.4 (1/1.4 = 0.7).

You are right, that it would be useful to have to option to define the load-cases for ULS and SLS checks separately. However at the monent (with version 1.3.0) this is not possible.

Best,

Clemens

OK - glad I wasn't missing anything. Thanks for the advice.
