algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey!

as it seems that the list of components in the set family is growing again with 9.0006, I asked myself one more time, how do I use them ? Would it be possible to see a few examples/cases in which those components are used ? As sort is already one of the few I used the most, It feels like I am passing next to something very usefull :/

Sets for me is as important as all of the other Tabs put together.  Of course, without the other tabs, sets might not do much (now there is an interesting challenge).  GH is about data management, and this is what you find in sets.  Notice, that a good deal of the functionality of the components found in this tab have made their way in and out of ALL components.  Reverse, Graft, Flatten, and Simplify functionality can be found in the inputs and outputs of all components, but they can also be found as their own components.  Data matching algorithms have not been taken OUT of every component, and can be found in the Sets.Lists area.  Data management is a big part of GH, and this tab is all about that.

You want to see examples of those components in use?  I think most GH definitions of a certain size need to make use of them, so just go around and download some definitions. 

Unfortunately, data management being such a fundamental issue, it is hard to typecast these components for any specific functionality, but Digital Toolbox does have some video tutorials which cover these components.  The current release changes some things, but a lot of the current workhorses are covered in their tutorials.  Also ModeLab has some primers on these things, but again, they will refer to previous versions of GH.

I totally agree with you that GH is all about data management. Actually it's good that you pointed me at those primers because it has something to do with my issue. It seems I have been a little vague in my previous question.

I use the list management tools all the time and I am trying to understand how some of them work, those that has been added little by little with the different version increments since 0.6... It's the case with the Sets.sets tools. What would you create a set for ? Is it to create conditional statements or refining lists ? what would the cartesian product be used for for example ? I read David's explanation but it seems I am missing some explanation ahead of that to understand the sets potential...

Let's say I never figured what to feed into any component asking for a mask as well but i could write a post about that one as well...
