Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi guys,

does anyone know how i might go about laser cutting these 3d anamorphic spheres

they all have different rotations and thus produce different images dependent on the viewing angle. I was originally thinking about slotting them together

any help would be much appreciated

You might be able to use the Bowerbird Plugin Tools to waffle each set of circles based on starting with spheres and setting the cutting planes to the required angles.

The tricky bit will be working out cutting planes in the right orientation for each sphere.

You will then have to identify each group of circles so you could assemble them.

It might not be possible where the circles have a small angle between them because there will be a big overlap due to the thickness of material and the small angle.

Not an easy project, but it would be a cool end result if it works!

thanks for the advice martyn i will look into Bowerbird now.

how do i get the base planes from the existing mesh geometry?
