Laplacian Growth ?

Hi Guys,

I have seen "Laplacian smoothing" in Weaverbird and Kangaroo but was wondering if anyone has worked with "Laplacian Growth"? Is the smoothing related in any ways apart from the name to the growth? 

I found the following documentation but would not know where to start on GH (sounds really fascinating though):
