Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I cannot get Kangaroo to install in Rhino 5.

Is it possible?  If so, what is the trick?

Thanks,

Aaron

In Grasshopper:

File > Special Folders > Components Folder

Copy + Paste the "GH_Kangaroo0080.gha" and "KangarooLib0080.dll" files

-----

For each of the files:

Right-Click > Properties > Security > Toggle "Unblock"

-----

Restart Rhino (maybe?) after completion.  That's it!

:/ still not working here...

Everything is working fine in Rhino4, but in Rhino5, Grasshopper is somehow unable to load Kangaroo properly.

As far as you can judge it, everything works fine, except the (most important) "KangarooPhysics"-Box.

Any ideas?

Hi Hannes,

Not sure what could be causing this. Which versions of GH/Rhino5 are you using ?

Do you get any error messages on starting GH ?

Thanks Daniel for the quick reply!

I'm using the Rhino version from 09/27/2012 and GH 0.9.0014.

The message is that:

So it seems it is not correctly finding the location of the dll. I'm not exactly sure why, but I've tried rebuilding with some different settings. Can you try placing the attached file in your Components folder (and making sure it is unblocked). Anyway, I'm hoping to maybe have an installer for the next version that should make this easier.

Thank you a lot, but it's still not working :(I can't explain it... but don't waste too much time. It works fine with Rhino4 and I can kangaroo my things there ;)

I just installed the Rhino 5 Evaluation version on a freshly formatted laptop today. After installing Kangaroo per the instructions provided by Taz and adding/unblocking the KangarooLib.dll I am experiencing the same errors as reported by Hannes.

Seeing as how Rhino 4 is now no longer supported this now is a bit of a problem. Hope to see an updated solution soon. Happy hunting :)

After a bit of fiddling about I think I've tracked down what went wrong here. In my case I noticed that performing the "unblocking" of the files wouldn't stick, hence the .dll wouldn't load properly. It turns out that my Windows user account security clearance was the culprit here. To fix this I simple went "Properties -> Security tab -> Change permissions to "Allow" for all the check boxes under your user name". I did this on all three files, but one could probably set this for the entire folder as well I suspect. Hope this will work for you as well Hannes :)

unfortunatly not :(

Thank you taz!

I initially had the same error messages as described by Hannes. Unblocking the GHA and DLL files did the trick for me with 'GH_Kangaroo0080.gha'. I tested both Rhino 5x64 and x86 on Windows 7, and it works. Interestingly, it did not work for Kangaroo 0.084, so I reverted back to 0.080 for now.

Well...I am having the same problems as the other posters here in this thread...everything is unblocked...new .dll is in Component folder and permissions are all set to 'Allow'...but no Kangaroo Component...all other components in the Kangaroo Suite are available.

Any further thoughts?

Aaron

I'm afraid not! I had the exact same symptoms and loading error messages, so it stands to reason that the fix might be the same. I guess your files could potentially be caught by an antivirus screener or a firewall, but that makes little sense since they are not executables! The plot thickens..
