Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello

I was wondering how you join two arcs/curves into one...

I've tried the join component but it still reads the arcs as two separate arcs...

What I basically want to do is to create and arc between the two blue arcs (indicated in yellow). But it must have the same x,y coordinates as the purple and red arc.

I thought that if i joined the red and purple arcs I could extrude it upwards.

However the problem is, is that when I join the two arcs it still reads them as two separate arcs even when I join the Brep extruded surfaces.

I tried to rebuild the curve too but it didn't work... so maybe I'm not using the component right...?

I need the blue and yellow arcs to become one so it looks the same in plan as the arcs (black, red, purple) on the x,y plane.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks :)

Of course if you shear an arc, you'll end up with an elliptical arc, not a circular arc. It's also probably not possible to create a single arc that represents the yellow line. It has two end point constraints and two end tangent constraints which is one constraint too much for a single arc.

If I create a bi-arc at the bottom (the red/purple arcs), then I can extrude the bi-arc as a single untrimmed surface:

I don't know how you want to intersect this surface so you get your yellow curve, but I think creating this surface is a necessity if you want to lock down the x,y shape of the blend in this way.

Hi David,

Thanks for the advice. Sorry I'm not very good at grasshopper and when I construct the biarc I get the arrow on the far right...

Cheers,

Ash

Why wouldn't you just take the intersection of the extruded base curve and a plane surface rotated to the required angle?

Hi Chris,

Thanks!! :)

I'm just about to try your suggestion too. And maybe even a combination of both of your ideas!

Cheers,

Ash
