algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello,
I'm having issues with applying point loads to my truss model. When I use a gravity load it works fine. However, when I try to apply multiple points which are in my model I am getting an error on the assemble. The error reads "1. Solution exception:Could not find node at (-444.858938558345/11.1667168923624/72.4190861433771) where point-load number 0 is attached." I have attached pictures. In the first picture you can see I referenced the points in my model which I want to be loads. If anyone knows how to fix this issue that would be great. I can submit the definition as well but there are several linked portions which I figured would just make it difficult however upon request I can attach the rhino file with the definition.

did you divide the elements so that the points where you want to apply the loads become nodes of the model?

No I did not. How would I go about doing this?

you can simply split the lines in Rhino at the points before you bring it into Grasshopper.

you can use the construct point or construct vector component to set the amount of force in a specific direction.

Yes, I understand that. I was just wondering if there are any tips and tricks in estimating the amount of force which I should use. Sorry I am an architecture student and have little experience in engineering. Is there any method of prediction built into the program where I can input the materiality to get a general weight and then use this weight to determine the force?
Hi Joe,
there should be guides online that would be able to assist you with that. The loads also differ according to different country norms as well so you could look into the norms for your specific country too. To calculate the dead weight of material applied as a force, you will need to manually do this.
