This does not explicitly answer my question.

You guys had a discussion about the difference between 32 and 64 bit software, but at no point was it ever declared that grasshopper can access more than 4GB of ram.

Grasshopper runs in whatever bit-depth Rhino runs. So yes, in 64-bit Grasshopper can access more memory. It is not in fact possible to run as a 32-bit plugin on a 64-bit Rhino or vice versa.
