in my version of grasshopper i do not have a scalar tab..that's the math tab..right?

Yes, most components in the Scalar tab went into the Maths tab. Interval has been renamed to Domain and a bunch of components have been merged (Number addition, Vector addition, Complex addition, Colour addition etc. are now all handled by a single addition component.
