algorithmic modeling for Rhino
To what structural analysis and design softwares like STAAD Pro, SAP2000, ANSYS, ABAQUS, OASYS etc. has the mesh generated by GH been imported to ?
If I model a structure in Rhino+GH and overlay it with a mesh, how can the mesh be used for structural analysis ?

I think there is a plugin form GH/SAP 2000. Google it or search this forum for sap 2000
Hi Chintan,
Geometry gym can export geometry to SAP2000, Tekla and Oasys.
Thanks guys ...
I think GeometryGym should do the trick, will post my results...
Depending on what analysis you want, KARAMBA might be worth a try. This will spare you the time of export and reimport.
Plus, it's free or much more cheaper.
It depends if free or cheap software provides you with the functionality you need. It could take years for the Karamba (or Millipede) developers to provide and test features in well established structural solvers such as Oasys or GSA (not that I want to discourage them from doing so).
Note also I've not yet charged any user to access the tools for academic learning or research. Revenues from commercial users permit me to work full time to develop and support these tools.
Yes I know. And I might have been misunderstood: by "much cheaper" I meant Karamba compared to SAP200, tekla... not compared to Geometry Gym BIM.
The original question was so generic that I thought that he didn't have any structural programs and wanted it for I one-time use.
Sure, understood. From a commercial firms point of view, the cost of the software is normally dwarfed by the cost of the wages for staff using it, office rent, supporting staff etc. If the software can save "time" it can have lots of benefits to the business.
It's a slightly different situation when you're a student trying to learn the technologies. When you're not earning "revenue" (the benefit instead is accumulating knowledge) the justification of paying for software isn't as straight forward (or the means to do so). This forms the basis of my licensing policy.
