algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Is there a way to import dwg files that have smart walls into rhino so they read as lines without having to explode them in cad first. I am trying to set up a live link between cad plans and a rhino model.

Thanks, Dan

Hey Danila, have you had any success creating your live link? I'd be very happy to hear about what you've tried.

I have been using worksession in rhino lately which seems to be relatively efficient, however smart objects from autodesk still don't get recognized until exploded.

Hi Danila,

Which smart objects from AutoCAD are you talking about?

I am specifically interested in 2014 autocad walls. My office works primarily in cad and it is very difficult to keep updating referenced plans when I have to down save and explode them each time for rhino to read them. Revit seems to be an easier back to back transfer but it is not efficient when our design changes so often.

Hi Danila,

Have you tried the format *.IFC?

I do not really understand your problem, but I suggest you watch this:

Hi Remy,

I have tried to export from AutoCad with the .ifc format, but rhino still does not recognize the smart objects (walls) when attempting to import. This is the error: Unsupported entity type: AcDbProxyEntity, ACAD_PROXY_ENTITY

I have seen geometry gym before and browsed through the blog, but I don't see anything that could help me with this specific issue.

Thanks for your help, Dan

Danila,

You must import IFC in rhino.
Two solutions: RhinoBIM or SSI FOR IFC (which I recommend).

To my knowledge AutoCAD alone can not understand what type of entity.
