Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I'm trying to replicate the attached Mandela sculpture (in 2D) using grasshopper but I have come to a halt and need advice in which direction to move.

My current definition produces colored lines that show the image, but that is not what I'm looking for because the lines have no thickness and because color doesn't get baked into rhino. If you could point me in the right direction or link me to some tutorials that would be great! Thanks in advance!

I think you need to
- create a bunch of lines
- divide them into a lot of points
- figure out how the xyz coordinate if each point relates to the image
- sample the brightness at that location (not the colour)
- create a circle at each point whose radius depends on the brightness
- loft those circles

In addition to David's above, which look much faster, I'd also recently seen this discussion: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/image-sampler-6?id=298522...

Systemig posted a definition in the comments which also allowed for non symmetry that could be useful for you.
