To be honest I do not understand the definition you posted above neither, as I am beginner myself.

But from what I can see, it is only a part of definition, not the whole one.

I made something similar, maybe it can be useful for you.

You can change the image if you like. And edit the surface into some other one. Bear in mind that I turned off the layer "Default" in Rhino, in which I made that lofted surface and it's initial curves.

My PC is very weak, so it takes some time to load the files. If you have weak PC too, do not worry everything is ok with the files, just let it load for a couple of minutes (by the way this is the longest delay in any grasshopper definition I did until now. Maybe my solution is too cumbersome, some of experienced users can tell)

When you open the .3dm and .gh files, right click on the image sampler and assign the new location in the "Path file" for the .jpg image. That file had a specific location on my hard drive which will not be the same on your PC.

Cheers.

thanks!...This works!

helo....a can't make this works....what i make wrong?...i want use this for my project in the high school.....you have facebook?....

how i select a new surface to make this definition working?

doesnt work..
I apply the surface, had change the image, and thats all, nothing changed...
what is wrong?

please help

You probably need to experiment with the value of that last number slider (the one that inputs into "Item" component - third component from the left). Changing that slider value will give you the right shape.

any idea how to do something similar,

but instead of cylinder create quader openings.

thanks

Image Sampler returns color vectors (or values of filtering component of color) of input points..

In the movie, it uses return values as radii of circles..

In that process, it also uses Graph Mapper to change radii parametrically..

Thank you for the reply Jissi.
Can you please tell us what does Graph Mapper do in this particular definition (the one posted in the first reply). Here is the screenshot of the definition:

The author of the definition is using Graph Mapper to define the Maximum value that will be obtained from the list of the radii values, or what?

graphmapper just converts values to comply to a graph function, withing a domain, making gradient, wave, ect. patterns in the data. Just change the curve on the graph and its use becomes pretty obvious.

Thank you for the reply Michael.

So if I would like to have a range of numbers equally divided withing a certain domain, I am using a Series or Range component?

And I would like to do the same thing, just with not-equal interspace between the values, then I will be using the Graphmapper?

In what way did the author of this definition use the Graphmapper?
For each grid point, he got a value defining the brightness of that point. So basically he has a list of random points from domain 0 to 1.
But for what for did he use the Graphmapper?

As I said graph mapper adds function to the data, thus changing it, Similar to the way remap works and f(x) components. Just use it and it becomes obvious. See here I inverted the graph which inverted the image sample values. Steeper values will add more value to larger values and less to smaller values and any other combination. So it is adding or taking away some value to each existing value based on the graph function.
