Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

The last Days, i´m deeply involve in GH world, sometimes i get stuck in the components, for my lucky, all the people here are really helpfull

guys like Dany Boyes, Hannes Loschke, Nathan Miller, Michael Pryor, among s others always that they can, give us theyr supports to all our handicapped ideas and low skills in GH.

today like all the days i was reading the forum and found this really helpfull clarification

made by dany Boyes, about Path Mapper Component.

http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/path-mapper-help-1

maybe will be so interesting develop a project to construct helps like this one for future users of GH.

because the native GH help sometimes dont be so helpfull for people who are not deep involved in Logic Programation, and doesnt have advanced Skills in GH and programation Thinking.

i´m just Brain Storming now hope that someday that idea can be true.

Thanks to the people who are always helping us, not only the 3 guys i mentioned

The problem we are faced with (and I can probably dig up the previous discussions along these lines) is nobody is willing to put time and effort into documenting something that will change, probably in the very next version of grasshopper. I have heard Andy Payne (who wrote the GH Primer) say that editions 3 and 4 have passed us by without even seeing the light of day because there have been that many changes to Grasshopper.

In the UK we have a saying that "it's like painting the Forth Rail Bridge" (On the Right)

Where supposedly by the time you get to the other end its time to go back and start again. The job is never finished. By the time you complete the Grasshopper Primer the information in the early chapters needs to be changed. I have seen postings in the past by David that he is seeking out an individual to improve the Help contents of each component and do more in the way of examples and tutorials for each.

I also think that once Rhino 5 is released we will see a big change in development. David will no longer have to port a special version of RhinoCommon to run in Rhino 4 (it just will not be supported any more) therefore freeing up time for improvements rather than just getting it to work on Rhino 4. Also I believe all the developers at McNeel have had to drop everything until Rhino 5's release meaning that there isn't anyone for David to turn to for help with particular problems at the moment.

If I could spend all my time doing this sort of thing I would write the documentation starting tomorrow. However being mortgaged to the eye balls with 4 children to feed means that my day job sometimes gets in the way of my posting for GH :))

well then we have to wait Rhino 5 and the new RhinoCommon  to have a clear documentation about all the Components and others cool stuff that GH + Rhino can do for us.

another example is Arturo's excellent primer, where the UI section was outdated almost instantly by ZUI and radial menu. GH is not a static program, but it is very exciting.

It is a constant problem... and one that unfortunately (in my opinion) doesn't lend itself well to the medium of print.  I think an online wiki would probably be the best solution (perhaps one that is contributed to by many of the participants who are active on this forum).  It has been brought up many times though, and every time is seems there is some sort of technical road block which prevents the system from ever being implemented.

Nevertheless, as Danny mentioned I have actually written several different versions of the Primer (updates to the second edition)... only to see things change dramatically after I had worked on formatting things in the document... such that it was out of date before it was ever really released.  Such is the nature of following such a fast pacing and ever evolving tool (which is why I think a digital medium would be best for this type of document).  Anyway, here is the thread that discussed this several months ago: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/gh-users-to-give-back?id=...  In this thread, I have attached the latest version of the Primer I started some time ago (not even sure what version it was written for).  It does however have much more up to date information than the 2nd edition (which is woefully out of date) and the format is much improved.  Anyway, hopefully someone can find some useful information in there :)

Andy Thanks for reply with the link with your lasted WIP premier, we need to keep this kind of ideas the wiki or something else warm for the future of the GH preservation, cuz the learn curve its a little bit hard (not  dificult) for those who doesnt have too much training in Computer Logic or Programation Thinking
