algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there,

I'm having a problem with filling a box with a specific Brep. I've made attempts at it, however every time I get the shape to project inside the box, parts of the brep spills out of the box. My goal is to fill the bounding box with the shape and possibly play with the scaling of the brep. Is this possible? I've attached a quick drawing of my goal to help explain. I've also attached my failed attempt.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Perhaps look at the Kangaroo and Kangaroo2 plugin. This might be able to simulate dropping breps into a bounging box.

Nesting algorithms are quite complicated I think, especially 3d nesting, but you seem to be aiming for more than just nesting... Nest, then fill the gaps with scaled breps.

I would try and write down the logic that you want to use first...

I.e.

Nest as many breps at scale 1:1

Scale by a factor and nest

Repeat until scaling at a final factor adds no more breps.

My guess is that this is very difficult to do!

Thanks for replying! Kangarro and nesting are both new to me, but I will give it a try and see if it works out.  Thanks again
