How to create a staggered grid

Hey guys,

I have been trying to create staggered grid as shown below. I have used Sift to separate the points into two separate columns and shifted one of them. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to connect the gaps (I drew it in rhino, green lines), so it forms a continuous grid. I also haven't found anything online, maybe I just dont know the right term for this kind of pattern. Can anyone help? thx!

Thank you. It is so great to see someone else's process. Seeing how you used shiftPattern made me realize that I was thinking about it the wrong way.
One question, what is the difference between RuleSrf and Loft?
