Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I want to build a Parameterization city shelters, and it will be Interactive with user, every unit modules on it could move Rhythmically.

I already finished the Modeling by rhino, and i really know nothing about how to use Grasshopper to break up the unit modules as parameterization. Is there any Grasshopper Master could help me? The result i want is looks cool and easy to build.

The question:

1,In the video,How to process parametric form?(kangaroo?)

2,After make all the things on the round surface, how to change the Tangency circle into flat polygon?

3, at last ,how to link every unit module?

wow icd always does amazing work! from the video it seems they started with circle packing on the surface which can be done with kangaroo so you may want to start with your research there...

Kangaroo part no problem but the next step, how planarization

Hi,

Have you taken a look at this video?

How to create planar Honeycomb Shells using Kangaroo´s Planarization Forces

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsbyfC2usUk

I tried
There are many problems, but what to do next, I hope the expert help

The other ethans point I believe is that if you want to fabricate this as they did at icd the panels needs to be planarized to be cut out of flat material... nice work so far though!

what do you want to do exactly? i understood, that you already have the honeycomb shells - is the connection your problem?

I Think the ICD found a way to shift from the hexagonal pattern on the spheres to the  "butterfly"-Parts in the negative curvature in the middle of the Blob. I´m working on the same system, let´s keep in touch...

This might help..

Thanks for linking to our blog post, Anders :)

I highly recommend you read the following paper that we used in the development of our planarisation tool:

Cutler, B., & Whiting, E. 2007. Constrained planar remeshing for architecture. Pages 11–18 of: Proceedings of Graphics Interface 2007. ACM.

We also released our source code in the hope that others might find it useful:

https://github.com/rambollcomputationaldesign/Giraffe

Without any specific knowledge of ICD's own approach with their pavilion, it does seem somewhat similar to our own. From memory, the key is in generating an initial hexagonal, tri-valent mesh. The planar mesh will share the same topology however we must alter the geometry by relocating the vertices. Find the average planes of each face and then each vertex of the planar mesh can be found by the intersection of the adjacent face-planes at that vertex. The bow-tie shaped faces appear naturally in negative curved areas.

maybe have a look at this video as well.

It's a lecture held by Achim Menges about this project. Maybe this can help as well.
