Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Guys,

I created one object with a bunch of surface but I cannot add thickness to these surfaces. is there any way to add thickness to these surface so that it can be 3d printed?  Thanks.

If the surfaces are planar, you can extrude them using the surface normal vector - doesn't work so well with non-planar surfaces but can come close.

Otherwise, an offset surface with edge connections can work, though there may still be issues.  Rhino has capabilities for this that Grasshopper does not.

You might find this discussion useful, along with some code bits I posted there:

Thanks for your great help,I checked this post and apply it to my another projects.

Hi Jinping, maybe you'll want to chop a little of the top and bottom to have them flat, but here's a way using Offset. I mainly concentrated on the thickness question.

Thank you so much, Your work is pretty smart. and I used your definition and printed the model.
