does it have to be done in GH? Bongo version 2.0 has Inverse Kinematics

I've seen the kinematics of the robot - hands, realized in Grasshopper, I would like to learn more complex things to do.

Try looking into Daniel Piker's Lobster

But I have a feeling this is limited to Robotic Arms

Yes, Lobster deals with the specific case of 6-axis robot arms.

Kangaroo can be used for kinematics of general linkages. Constraining points to only move along curves or in certain directions can be used for pistons, the hinge or vortex forces can be used for motors. Gears are something else I was thinking of adding - they would constrain 2 angles to maintain a fixed ratio...

Hi Daniel,

I was thinking of adding preset to lobster for different lifts. This can help architects show how to maintain buildings interior without collisions!
