Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello!

First day of Grasshopper use, starting to get the language but just got tripped up.

I am trying to make the rhino model attached to act as a series of hinges. I have included an example from another forum that I found here of a hinges arm to base my model off, which was working smoothly until I got stuck on how to hinge layer 2 to three so that it follows the movement of layer three while still being able to move on its own. The example of the hinged arm looks like he/she used control points off a line, but I cannot do this with a polysurface.

Any guesses?

many thanks.

Something like that? I'm not sure.

The example you found has the Planes about which you Pivot the geometry in a hierarchical relationship. i.e. When you rotate the first section the pivots of the other sections also rotate.

If you look at the image below it shows the relationships of the example and the disjointed nature of your method.
