You can control the size of the grid on the menu Display > Preview Plane Radius > size,

but I don't know how you can change the grid's elements. It doesn't really matter, that grid simply indicates a plane, in that case the XY world plane. 

Oh, don't think of planes as surfaces which you can visualize. Think of them as coordinate systems which are imaginary. 

Maybe David changed the number of squares in the grid between versions. 

It does work for me...

But like a said it doesn't really matter. That "plane" isn't a geometry, its simply a means of visualizing a coordinate system, in this case the XY plane. 

Maybe you'll understand it with the [horizontal frame] and [vertical frame] components. It's in the definition attached.
