Help with ribbed surface!

Hi everyone! I'm trying to build a ribbed surface like the building with the flag on it.

I've attached a file where I can build the ribs on a lofted surface but I'm not sure how to select an area on the surface to rib and allow the ribbing to dissolve.

I've tried to use a graphmapper to control the position of the points taken from the division of the contours from the surface, but failing to translate that into a vector to do a move.

Would appreciate it if anyone has ideas on how to do this!
