Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey guys

im trying to create a 3d Network, using hexagons. does anyone know how to do this.

the network should take form of a polyhedron 3d lattice.

Here is an example

if anyone can tell me which plug in or component i can use in grasshopper that would be much appreciated!

you could use voronoi 3d for a "similar" look...

or maybe start with a regular 3d polyhedron then apply some transformation using attractors points, kangaroo or something like that. Look for geomgym plugin and the water cube example: http://geometrygym.blogspot.com/2010/08/tessellation-in-grasshopper...

This is still not realli 3D its still 2.5 surface lattice? 3d voronoi seems like a way but how does this work? do you kno any tutorials or links?

The tessellation routines are 3d, the component has an option to generate perimeter lines (wireframe) or polysurfaces.  I haven't posted to many examples of wireframes (but have seen some users generate some great projects), one of mine is in this blog post emulating a torus, http://geometrygym.blogspot.com/2010/01/tessellation-work-in-progre... and other examples filtered by the tag cloud, http://geometrygym.blogspot.com/search/label/Tessellate

They are "regular" though so you will have to use a morph or transform if you want variations in the overall grid.
