Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey there,

I would hugely appreciate a hand with this simple problem:

How do I move the long curving line at the highlighted point up in the z direction to meet the second highlighted point?

The desired result is that the curve lifts to meet the point at one end, and slopes down to the other end.

I'm really stuck!

Thanks! aL x

Yes! That's exactly what I wanted to achieve.

Taking this a bit further, is there another way of achieving this whereby you can control the curve in the z direction at any given point, such as any one of the points shown in the attached image?

Thanks for you time, Once I have this figured out I will be set!

ps I always overlook the simple maths you can use to overcome these sorts of problems, so thanks for reminding me!

I thought what I was attempting something relatively simple, since I'm not experienced I keep messing up, thanks for your help so far, hopefully I'll get this in the end! cheers

Quick Question.. what should the crv beyond the point you have defined the Z value for do,

# Should it keep rising at the same angle/ratio as the curve upto the selected point

or

#Flattern out

or

# drop back down?

Just a guess but are you trying to create a wavy ramp?

Hi Matt,

Yes, a wavy ramp sort of thing is what I'm after. I've attached an image of my progress in Rhino, and an Image of the original dwg that I'm extruding and bending.

The idea is that these bench sort of things follow the contours of the topo.

I've had a go and doing it in Rhino with control points, but it feels like grasshopper would speed things up and offer much more control.

Any ideas would be much appreciate

I'd like to to achieve control of the objects height at range points along top surface, thereby creating the up and down effect

You can use a [Project] component onto a Plane that you construct from a line between the 2 points.

This is another way of doing it that shouldmake the sloped crv the same in plan as the input crv with the same number of control points, though if you want to change points on the curve at different heights you maybe better developing what marcus has posted.

Hope this some help

Matt
