algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello guys I wanted to ask you a couple of information:

* when I do the offset of an open curve how do I make a closed polyline?
* there is an option to offset a surface so that the result becomes a solid and not two different surface?

Thanks for the help

Thanks a lot

That's cool, but I found the boolean difference didn't work when i tried it?

Here's my 2 cents, without the scripting (i wish i could!). This simple version only works offsetting inside the shape, as shown in your attached jpg Daniel, but you get the idea...

Hi Daniel,

Check out this discussion: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/offset-surface-into-solid

So, a bit difficult to do at the moment, but perhaps there is a different way to approach your problem? - Could you model the shape as a solid, boolean out the centre, fillet the corners etc...? - Or perhaps build all the surfaces of your shape, trim as appropriate and join together to make a closed shape?

There's always more than one way to break an egg!

David.

...or... offset the profile curve (in the direction you want to offset the surface), create a planar surface from those two curves and extrude the surface to make solid.

...A little more elegant.

your solution is ok for closed curve but not for open curve.
when i apply offset to open curve, how can trasform two single curves in one close curve?
just feed it with one curve
