Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello everyone!

I AM A BIT NEW TO GRASSHOPPER AND WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP REGARDING A PROBLEM.

i want to create a family of chair design using basic shapes. i want to create a few number of seat, back and legs for a few chairs and then let grasshopper do the mutations for me. is that possible. a reference image is attatched. i will realy appreciate your help.its called Bone Chair by Julien de Smedt Architects.

You can certainly create a set of all possible combinations from a limited number of variables. But you'll need to create a file which can convert these combinations of numbers into actual chair geometry. That may not be easy.

I attached a file which has a cluster. The cluster makes a single chair from a set of values, the top-level file provides a large amount of value permutations:

I'd imagine you'd do something similar, but your chair looks a lot more complex.

This approach computes all chairs at the same time, which takes a while. It is also possible to have a slider so you can manually select each permutation in turn, but then you might just as well control the settings directly.

Thankyou David VERY MUCH!

i will try to grasp the concept and bother you again if i have any question.

Skål!

moreover, can you point me in direction to achieve somewhat similar chair design as shown in reference?

i know my questions are not really to the point. plz forgive my amateur command on grasshopper

Skål!

nyone else who would like to share their thoughts on this problem?

suggestions would be appreciated.

Skål!

Sorry to bother you again but something weird is happening here, i have attached the screenshot of the problem i am referring to, i hope you can find some time to see it.

Well, it would seem the cluster references a file which no longer exists. Clusters in Grasshopper can either be linked to a GH/GHX file on the disk, or they can carry that file inside of them. In fact all clusters carry their files inside of them just in case a referenced file disappears.

Despite this error, the cluster should still work. It should also be possible to internalize this cluster (make it explicitly local rather than linked to a file) but I notice that menu option is disabled. This is a bug.

If you double click the cluster you can edit the file inside of it.
