Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Guide/tutorial for ghPython and Eclipse workflow. Edit and debugging code.

I've write this afternoon a small tutorial about a workflow I've just found to edit and debug python code inside a ghPython component using Eclipse.

There is nothing new there, just compiling information disposed in several tutorials around the network.

I hope this helps :)

You did some pretty nice job in there, Angel.
Thank you.

Thanks djordje :)

Hi Ángel,

I often use rhinoscript or pythonscript in my architecture projects and would like to teach this method to my students.  A lot of my students are intimidated by the idea of using scripting, so grasshopper is a good option.  I am trying to combine some grasshopper methods and some pythonscript methods.  But, unless you have prior experience scripting, I don't really think it's possible to learn pythonscript inside of grasshopper because there is no debugger available.

Therefor, I am very excited about this workflow.  Thank you for posting information about it.

But I am having some trouble setting it up.  I have followed the install steps (as closely as I could) and then I turn on the debugger in eclipse (as described) and then toggle the debugger and in my grasshopper python component.  After taking these steps I can see that something is happening in the eclipse window but it's not what I want.  issue_01: A python utility file opens up in eclipse and eclipse/pydev seems to be trying to debug that.  issue_02 is that the debugger terminates after about 15 seconds.  I have uploaded my code and screen prints of what is happening.  Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Also, if there is a simpler process to debugging a python component in grasshopper I would be open to trying a different method.

Thank you
