algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey guys,

I have a problem with the following, I would like to do the "grid" in the picture in a parametric way. I tried it with the rectangular grid but I can't figure out how to change the distances between the vertical lines and also not the one with the shifted lines, ...

Any help is much appreciated! :)

Hey Chris,

thanks for your reply! It works good. I tried to fit it in a predefined rectangle but without success, ... I can't solve the problem with the height Y, the spacing in X works fine. Do you might have another look on it please?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Chris,

thanks a lot for your help! Your approach gave me a lot of new input. I first needed to check it out in how far I can apply/modify it on what I will do. Like I mentioned before, with the existing rectangle. But I guess I did it! :)
There were only a few things left, which i don't understand yet. As you can see on the attached picture, Why doesn't it start on the first column and why are the last two empty? When I change the numbers for the "Base grid control" it is a back and forth. Does it depend on the even or od numbers? When I bypass the math operations nothing changes except some error messages.

Any idea on this? And again, thanks a lot for your help, I'm learning a lot from this, ... :)

Sebastian,

It's just my assumptions about what you want.  I assumed that you didn't need the lines that would be covered by the outline of the rectangle.  I also assumed that you would want a symmetrical layout of the lines within the rectangle.  The grid jumps by a multiple of four to achieve this.  This can all be changed easily but you have to give me the exact details.  What I've achieved so far based on what I understood you wanted to do is: 1)Provided a variable count of two sets of lines that are kept inside an adjustable bounding rectangle; 2)Provided that the vertical separation distances and lengths of the two sets of lines are independently adjustable.  Other than that I've just made it up to my own whim.  Let me know what else you want and I'll make some adjustments.

Hey,

yeah you're right with the things you assumed, sorry for my bad explanation in the beginning, ... It is more like I would like to start with the rectangle. The rectangle is the origin of everything here. If the rectangle is changing the complete system should correct itself but still with the possibility that i can change it on my needs (amount of lines, distances between and length). But I guess this already works, except the things I mentioned in the reply before, you know with the first line and the second two lines in the grid. I would appreciate it if the system starts and ends with the outlines of the pre defined rectangle. Like in a symmetrical layout, starting with the for example in the attached image, the cyan colored lines than the magenta colored lines, ending again with the cyan colored lines. Means for example, 9 columns cyan and 4 columns magenta.

Ah I don't want that you do all the work here, I just want to understand and learn how I can achieve it. It is training for me, ...

I am really thankfull for your help!

Now you can input your own rectangle.  The definition assumes you're drawing in the XY Plane.  This can be changed if necessary.

It's training for me too.

Wow, that's it! I need to study what you did in detail, the thing with the explode tree is timesaving! Ah so much left to learn! Your approach is very interesting but all in all, Chris thanks a lot for your patience and help! Time to go to bed over here! ;)
