algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi, for sure this is a very strange question. and please notify me If I violate this forum rules. I heard Grasshopper 1.0 will be embedded in Rhino 6.0 and David will continue to work on Grasshopper 2.0 as Plug in (correct me if Im wrong) , is there any possibilities for Grasshopper to become a standalone software that can crossplatform to other 3D package?

just saw this video about a guy use Grasshopper to modify MAYA fluid without having to run Rhino : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CPIUZEWqAI

Is it currently possible to use Grasshopper function without having to "draw" geometry inside RHino, rather send it as "global language" to other 3D software that support NURBS and poly (in this case MAYA)?

anybody care to give some explanation? perhaps from David himself?

if this post sounds like violating forum law because I mention another software outside Mcneel, please let me know, I ll delete the post immediately.

Basically correct. GH1 is already part of Rhino6 beta releases. GH2 will probably be distributed as a loose plugin while in beta, and it will replace GH1 as a fixed part of Rhino once it's out of beta.

There are no plans to make a standalone version of GH, for two main reasons.

A) Rhino provides a huge amount of the geometry functionality needed for the core product. Although other SDKs can also provide this, it would take a huge amount of platform specific code.
B) It's hard to see how we could afford to fund such development, as it would yield little to no return on investment.

You're not violating any rules, I don't mind talking about this at all, and we're not fundamentally opposed to a multi platform implementation of GH, it's just not anywhere near the top of the list at the moment.

thanks for the quick reply David. yes, the thing I like about GH is its flexibility to crossplatform to other 3d package (or simulation software).Id like to point out few things (just food for thought...) who knows it could become a huge benefit for GH in the distance future.= (hope you don't mind reading this)

I can understand it's a bad business plan to fund GH to become standalone product. however, having wandered around in Autodesk Forum for quite a long time I noticed that several people (quite alot actually) are asking for "grasshopper-like" feature in 3D giant software like 3dsmax and MAYA. I m not surprised because only very few people can actually use programming language (VB, C, etc). there would be the time when eventually Autodesk will develop a similar stuff like GH (They did actually for Revit, but still in juvenile state).when that times come, I am afraid Rhino+GH would have a very hard time to compete. (Rhino is powerful only because of GH. without GH, it basically performs the same function as other NURBS-based software, unless u know coding stuff...)

Autodesk has "T-spline" patent for RHino, maybe we should do the same to have "GH-like" Patent for the other Autodesk software

sorry for this weird talk, I got frustated because I keep having to work in both platform from MCneel and Autodesk, which wreck my financing plan for years.
