Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey everyone,

In advance I want to say I'm relatively new to Grasshopper or even Rhino in general, so please don't blame me if I'm asking a stupid question :')

So I've got this pretty primitive structure which consists of three pyramids with the top cut off, if you get what I'm saying, unified together.

If I want to give it an interior, though, I need it to consist of walls and have the inside be empty instead of having this big solid thingy. I know I'm pretty vague, but I hope you understand me :D

I've been able to give the three individual thingies an empty inside by basically scaling it down a bit and then running a bbx on it to 'solve conflicts between the two'. But I can't get much further than that, so yeah...

Anyways, I hope there to be a solution to this problem, since otherwise I probably need to design an even more primitive symmetrical object which can in itself be scaled down etc.

Any help is much appreciated :'D

Hi Jiri!

I'm afraid you can't do that. NURBS can not handle this task. I think it was already discussed here. Eventually there is also a technical explanation (which I don't remeber exactly).

Hi Jiri,
You can not do this in Grasshopper, but there is a small trick of doing it in Rhino. Check this topic topic for further info.

Thanks! :D

So did you do this using the scaled versions of the three thingies and then performing the trick of that post?

I used the models from your grasshopper definition with two things changed:

the bottom parts of outer and inner shells are not made from a single flat surface but an overlapping three ones.
And those mentioned bottom parts of outer and inner shell overlap between each other too. So I lifted the bottom of the inner ones a little bit.

Other option, a little sloppy, is to create a minimum orifice so you can have intersection between the two breps.
