GHX File recognition problems

There is something incredibly simple that I'm missing here, but every time I try to download and a GHX file it converts it to a .XML. Then when I try to open it in GH it doesn't recognize the file type and prompts me with the dreaded "I have no idea what you want me to do" message. Please help!

Are you using Internet Explorer? It tends to try and be smart about renaming files it is asked to download.

that's exactly it! I downloaded chrome and it worked just fine. Thanks for the speedy reply!

The default behavior of IE is to determine file types by MIME rather than by extension. This is a security feature which you can disable, in case you don't want to install an additional browser.

I think the main problem is that the Grasshopper installer is not registering the .ghx file type in Windows.
