Grasshopper's Hidden Gems (GH HG): The Colour Wheel.

Time and again I see a new component and think at the time "nice one" but then forget it without a second thought.

I've just re-visited the Colour Wheel (CW) and thought I would write up my findings.

Similar to the Gradient component the CW will provide the user with an array of colours to use with your geometry. But rather than being a blend of colours at a specified point in the scale the CW will provide a complimentary palette based on the supplied number of variants.

The user interface comprises a number of grips that allow you to select the colours that make up the palette as well as the band either side of the source colours. Further sliders allow you to set the ranges of Saturation and Luminosity.

The Context menu has various styles to choose from comprising of up to 4 different colours and 3 distribution settings

I didn't see this until now, I would say that you probably need to ask David to include a 5 Pronged selection method to replicate this

I know your post is pretty old now, but I was wondering if you or someone else can explain how the color wheel is working to give me certain colors. In my example I am confused as to why one of my three colors is not in the yellow range.

The settings used on the color wheel are Trichromatic and Triad.I feel like I am just misunderstanding how this component works... it is probably not a bug... and there are many other options to creating color sets, so it isn't that pressing to figure it out, but it is a little nagging question that I have.

Any tips are welcome.

It probably comes down to the randomness of the its in built selection. The component should probably have a Seed value to change what gets output. The component probably works best with more output values to get a greater range of palette

Thanks for the reply... and the extra thought for a workaround.

I liked your approach, but in trying to use it is seems the seed value has to be just right to get a color distribution as one might expect from my example above.

I think your description of the components intended use being different than what I had originally imaged is absolutely correct.

Thanks for giving it a shot. I really appreciate what you (and others) have done in this forum over the years.
